Welcome to our online catalogue

Staff welcome enquiries to help you plan your research. For further information including our opening times and contact details see our visitor information page on the Idea Store website.

The online catalogue contains descriptions of the holdings of Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives. These include books, periodicals, pamphlets, archival and image collections.

How do I search the catalogue?

You can do a quick search using the text box in the top right corner of this page. This will search across the archives, local history library and image collections. We recommend using Advanced search to refine your search terms and results, or Browsing the archives for tips on searching this particular collection.

A Subject Guide has been produced to help you identify topics of interest, and you can also browse the library's Classification Scheme.

How can I see the records described in the catalogue?

Please visit the library and archives in person to consult the collections during our opening times. If possible, please bring the reference number/s and the Class (if available) of the items you wish to see, and don’t forget to bring proof of address, which is necessary to register as a user.

If you are unable to visit in person, please email or phone and we may be able to send you photocopies or scans, for a small charge. This will be dependent on (a) the material is in a fit condition to be copied and (b) the extent of the material required.

Is it possible to see digital copies of items from the collections?

A selection of digitised collections is available in the Archives Online section of our website and in our Digital Gallery.
